Strombo Show Chat Summary ~ April 18, 2010 (incomplete)

Info/links/etc.. from the April 18, 2010 Strombo Show Chat:

Chat summary coming.. whew.. long day.. long night.. too many hours in a Skype chat session for this girl! My brain hurts.. I'm crawling into bed to listen to Nightstream.. to wake up to Bob & do the summaries catch-up another day (oohhh that rhymes.. sorta?! Blurrghhh.)

Busy night in the chat..

Thanks to the following folks for stopping by at various times throughout the night:
~ @Barbara_Wheel, @oldschoolgirl, @JosieGorgie (our token American ;), @ragzey_z, @huskermould, @mishelleorama (for her very FIRST Strombo show listen EVER.. and she hung out in the chat with us!), @wildworks, @Mariposaland, @kelgura [and of course (now former) StromboShowChat Collective team members, but we're on as the host/chat moderator under StromboShowChat on Skype].

If I've missed anyone here, or have wrong info up.. not intentional & it'll be fixed soon.. (as this is a down & dirty post to get a "place-holder" up until I finish the full chat summary). And please let me know if I missed anything. Comments & feedback are ALWAYS welcome!

People we missed that night.. Hope to see you out next Sunday, or in the future..
~ @mellowlee (but I know she works early, early), @emgrant (sometimes working so can't chat), @spydrgyrl (busy, busy.. family commitments!), @coldcanuck, @DaleMac12, & others such as Jen from FB, etc.. We missed ya!

Chat Summary
(VERY incomplete)

I do have this info to share.. before I fall down..

Album side tonight was The Clash’s Live At Shea Stadium.

Borrowed from:
The Strombo Show's Facebook Group Page
(note, you may need to log in to access this link):

~ "Bootlegged and sought after by collectors, the Clash's Oct. 13, 1982, performance at New York' Shea Stadium was found when Joe Strummer was moving."

And some of my personal fav/highlights from the night..
George's Mom.. OMG. I love her. Can she be MY mom too?!
She could be the nation's Mom.. She is so freaking adorable..
I ♥ ♥ ♥ her and everyone else did too! And her musical taste..
I swear.. my parents & George's must have listened to the same music! I remember hearing Glen Campbell's-Rhinestone Cowboys growing up on a ranch in MB as a young girl...
(oh yah.. I was a cowgirl ;)

And Rich's tracks..fantastically brilliant #iWantToBeEvil-Eartha Kitt (#iWannaDoBurlesque to this song! Spectacular. Spectacular!) & Seven Nation Army Vs. Bring The Noise (mashup)-White Enemy! Dancing around the living room..

I'm still laughing at some of the commentary on tonights show..
Bob & Doug.. I mean Bob & George ;)

Other highlights:
"Rancid-Corazon De Oro" can we say.. #girlWithAheartOfGold...
AND
George FINALLY playing a request for @Mariposaland, a long-time fan of the show.. (and participant/contributor to many of the various iterations of the Strombo Show Chat sessions over the years..)

He played a Danny Michel track for her & I'm sorry to say Mari.. at this time of the night.. the name of it escapes me. But our newest listener & chat participant @mishelleorama loved it so much she ran off and downloaded it and probably still has it on repeat...

Thanks for your patience all.
I AM working on getting caught up.. I was silly & started DRAFT posts of ALL the Strombo Show playlists I have going back to ~May last year.. 2009.. so that kept me away from updating the chat summaries.. loads of cool info to come tho!

Promise.

April 11, 2010: The Strombo Show Playlist (& G12 Count Down)

Since I mentioned prior that people were having problems viewing things on the updated Strombo.com website ... since it is in Flash...

I'll be putting up the last couple playlists (& G12 Count Down lists) on here. If it seem like a popular thing to have up here too, I'll keep it up.

I also have playlists dating back into last year, etc and possibly older, so over time I will hunt those down, chat with some of the long time listeners of the show & get their lists and put those older ones up here for people to go back through the various playlists for the show!

Strombo.com website updates/Flash/playlists...

Info on Strombo.com website updates/Flash/playlists..

A lot of people have mentioned to me directly or indirectly.. in the chat (or on Twitter or Facebook, etc) about having trouble viewing things on the updated Strombo.com website ... since it is in Flash...

It seems that the only browser(s) that works really well is Internet Explorer (I.E.) 7.0+-ish or better and Apple Safari 4.0+-ish (which is in a word.. ironic ;)!

Except for the March 14, 2010 show which numerous people have reported crashing. I've had this particular show crash every browser I've tried so far (at various times in the the playback, but usually w/in the first 4-15mins), but it seems that the other shows do run in Internet Explorer (I.E.) 7.0+-ish and Apple Safari 4.0+-ish.

I've tested it in Chrome, Firefox and Safari.. mostly the current versions of each as I tend to keep my browsers very up-to-date with the website development/design & testing work I've done in the past (even tho I dis-like some of the new "features" of things in I.E. 8.0, etc).

If you've any success or problems with the website or listening to the feed, feel free to post it here in the comments & I'll see if I can pass it on some how.. (or I think they may just be reading it here.. just maybe... ) As well, if you are on Facebook there is the Facebook Strombo Fan Page [in-line link pending, but it's elsewhere here] and there are some posts on the Discussion Board on this topic.

George announced on this just past show on April 11, 2010 is that there is a non-Flash version of the website under development (and there is a note up on the website that the server is being upgraded as well..) which means that everyone will hopefully be able to view the website & listen properly soon... as the evil Flash will go away and those who want to view it on mobile devices such as iPhones, iPods & even iPads.. (haha... I still have trouble writing/saying that name.. lol).. will be able to do so since we all know Flash isn't supported on those devices..

(It's kinda like the Olympics not being on TV George.. ;)

Strombo Show Chat Summary ~ April 11, 2010 (incomplete)

Info/links/etc.. from the April 11, 2010 Strombo Show Chat:

Chat summary coming.. new blog setup underway here as you can see.. but I'll get it up soon!

It sure seemed busier after the quiet Easter one last week, even though there were only 6 of us & we were still missing quite a few of the old guard/regulars!

Thanks to the following folks for stopping by at various times throughout the night:
~ @Barbara_Wheel, @huskermould, @Mariposaland, @ragzey_z, @JosieGorgie (from the US of A!) [and of course StromboShowChat Collective team, but we're on as the host/chat moderator under StromboShowChat on Skype].

If I've missed anyone here, or have wrong info up.. not intentional & it'll be fixed soon.. as this is a down & dirty post to get a "place-holder" up until I finish the full chat summary. And please let me know if I missed anything. Comments & feedback are always welcome!

People we missed that night.. Hope to see you out next Sunday, or in the future..
~ @oldschoolgirl, @mellowlee (The bum was at the Spoon concert @ the Orpheum Theatre in Vancovuer on April 11, 2010 - hopefully she'll tell us about it next time ;), @emgrant, @kelgura, @wildworks, @spydrgyrl, @coldcanuck, @DaleMac12, @mishelleorama & others such as Jen from FB, etc.. We missed ya!

Thanks for your patience all.

Welcome to the Strombo Show Chat Blog..

Hey there..

Welcome to the Strombo Show Chat Blog!

[ NOTE: Picture is from George receiving his Doctorate of Laws from the University of Calgary.. We think it was ~2007 (but don't quote us on that). We'll find out & confirm. Not sure who to do photo credit to? If you know, let mus know! Thanks. ]

We created this blog.. actually about a week or so ago to support the Strombo Show Chat that is running on Skype now as StromboShowChat (see "former" posts for information, or if you need technical help getting setup, please contact us). We are just getting the blog up & running finally now as we've been busy.

It's an "unofficial" chat (and blog) at the moment. Not sure if "we'll" ever get any official recognition at any point, but we are chatting with "the powers that be" (when we have time to email them again that is..) and that takes time.

We've "ported" posts that we originally put up elsewhere ... but the Strombo Show Chat information was sorta taking it over & we'll leave them duplicated there probably until the month end (April 2010, likely end of May now to handle the transition/setup) to make sure we have them successfully moved over with all information, and then we'll probably delete them from there.

If anyone has any questions/concerns/etc.. please feel free to post or comment on here.. or drop us a note some other way. The side panel has some info, as we're working on a few things like a Contact Info/About Us pg & a Chat Rules/Info pg, How-To-Sign Up (see blog post here), several FAQs, etc.

We will seeing about setting up a Strombo Show Chat email as well.. but we don't want to step on George's toes in anyway doing any of this stuff.. so we're waiting for some response before we do anything more "official" like that.

Please join the chat session on Sunday nights..

Join up & join in on your time zone, or whenever you listen.

Interesting enough though.. most people are streaming the show online at CBC Radio 2 website: http://www.cbc.ca/radio2 and the earlier timezone(s).. 8pm AST/7pm EST/4 pm PST are the MOST popular at the moment, with most people out East tuning in & then signing off by ~8-8:30pm PST.. which is.. late-ish.. out East.

We are currently planned to be around for the whole time frame across all time zones (4pm PST/8pm AST to midnight PST) since ~(now former) StromboShowChat Collective team members are all across the country.

Maybe in the future we'll sort out confirming some other moderators to help out.. but we listen right now, first time in AST during the craziness of the chat.. and then the 2nd time (as long as the show is good, which is usually is..) in PST as it's quiet in the chat & we can catch up on things we missed and sit back, enjoy.. update this blog hopefully and occasionally a few people drop into the chat on CST/MST, or a the few of the "old guard/regulars" in PST stumble in...

So.. Please participate. Please engage.
Please offer feedback/insight/help/etc.
Enjoy.
