Changes..(not of the Bowie kind)..(a not so) short update-ish..about sorta weird & crazy (should be close) encounters of the missing birthday kind..

Well..
It's been an interesting bit of a run as of late here..

And I can see that there's been a bunch of traffic coming to the blog lately, so figured I should do a "not-so-brief-ish" ;) update-ish now to explain things going on..
..but there are also a few more posts on related topics..& others, that are on the (back) burner..

First off (some background/reminders)..

I stopped posting to this blog specifically for a couple of reasons (and I never said a proper "goodbye" due to reason #2 below):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. I used to the be the ONLY one that posted/shared the playlists of The Strombo Show (they seem to have conveniently forgotten THAT fact)
..but then George got an Intern, & then Staff that do that/those tasks (& get PAID for it)..
& they post them over on the CBC Music site (brutal changes to that website in the recent months tho..but more on that later)..
..AND..I'll *try* post a link to where that stuff is..later..
IF I can find it/figure out the wacky things they've done to that website.
It's complicated..when, where it used to be simple & straightforward.
2. I then moved from Vancouver back to Calgary in ~late 2012/early 2013 (but didn't have much time prior w/move planning to post, or to even put a "we're on hold, be back..later" message up here).
And then when I got to Calgary, I didn't have the time to blog here on Strombo Show topics, as well as focus on the things I needed to do be doing in other parts of my life.
So, with the intern --> staff now doing the playlists, I backed off doing & posting to the blog on any #StromboShow topics
(I do have ~50+ Drafts tho..& that doesn't count the archive playlists that have never been posted anywhere else - more on that later)
..or even music related topics, as that was always intended to be the longer term focus & goal of this blog as well
..to continue to collaborate (with The Strombo Show of course) & maybe other CBC Radio 2 shows (b/c they are cool & unique & the best)..
..and also share other great MUSIC info.
B/c..as much as I'm pissed at George right now (see below), the phrase #WeLoveMusic is as much something that belongs here,
& while it belongs to the show, & the "fans" & supporters of the show
..just as much as it also does speak to just a LOVE of ALL music in general
AND..
..therefore it also belongs to music lovers & fans, everywhere, regardless of The Strombo Show connection!
I also since in early 2014 & until just recently had/have been dealing w/some serious, unexpected health issues, including a major "emergency" surgery in late 2014. And then, over the past few years since, have been working to focus on getting my health back to former levels..& also on getting my business(es) going again & re-established here in Calgary.
That become my priority, getting my health back to a good, preferably great place, FIRST & foremost, before ANYthing else..
..hopefully understandably so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So..on to the partial reason for this post, & changes/updates/limbo that the @StromboShowChat & ultimately this blog as well..
..are going through..
..might be going through..
Involve the following:

It was time to just call George..Strombo (if you call him that..I don't..I can't..I don't know why..but it just doesn't feel right to me)..out on some BULLSHIT.

However..he REALLY does NOT like that..(being "called out")
..altho..in truth..
It is what you say to people G, what ask them to do..
..to ask questions, be curious, challenge everything
(YES darlin'..EVEN YOU)..
AND hold you accountable (to the standards, the things that you have stated, & set out for the show..& for yourself).

So why the heck are you mad when I do just that?

Well..the truth is..that isn't the truth, or the case.

IF you challenge George, IF you ask him to BE accountable..
..he gets PISSED off.
(..at least at me.. :/ )

Usually, the REALLY SUPER
(like has lashed out in anger at me..in Twitter DM, or FB PM
- those are private messages tho, so you'll just have to take my word on it, as I won't share ANY private, confidential exchanges -
Sorry. Privacy is paramount to me (& I know to George as well).
..or like unfollows you on Twitter, or does some other passive aggressive, indirect things..the list is TOO long, etc)
..kind of PISSED off.

But..
Despite that risk, that he'd/he'll be angry at me..
(maybe forever, who knows..he IS stubborn)!
But..so am I, I suppose. ;)

..I STILL and ALWAYS will challenge him, and continue to ask him smart, intelligent, thoughtful, thought-out, exploring..
and..yes, challenging questions..

..AND, yes..hold him accountable.

That's who I am, that is what my ethics & integrity & my own "punk rock" beliefs stand for..

SO..
You'd think he'd respect that?
(instead of kinda being an ass about it)
..based on his own assertions, statements..

..and especially..the ethos of The Strombo Show
(& also George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight & back to  The Hour),
and the years of "his brand" development, etc..

But who knows what's going on there..
Maybe one day he'll explain himself.
To me.
<shrug>.
You'll notice, I'm not holding my breath tho. ;)

So..you might be wondering..
WHAT ON EARTH did you (I/me) do to piss George off THAT much?

Well..
All I pointed out (and asked), that after 9-10+ YEARS..of yes..THAT LONG
..of support & having his back (in countless, endless ways I can't EVEN begin to list & share here),
& then ALL The Strombo Show (Chat) Blog work (done for FREE!)..& lots of it behind the scenes, so this blog & the Twitter, etc, etc..don't even begin to encapsulate it..

..you'd think someone like that (ahem..ME)..
could actually get Happy Birthday mention
(or heck, EVEN a private message)
..or a song request played on the show..
or SOMETHING.

AND..
..this year (2016)..the radio show even fell on my birthday/Oct 23rd, so you'd think maybe, hey..that should be..like a given.
Right?

No.
Not even that.
#notEVENaHBD
Not once.
NOT ONCE in 9-10+years..?!?

As, when you really think about, it's a simple thing to do.
A kind, sweet, generous thing.
A tiny, simple, easy way to demonstrate some gratitude.
The thoughtful, nice, caring thing to do.

AND..YET..
..he couldn't even do that?

They did (I assume The Strombo Show staff)
(..BUT ONLY after I pt'd this glaring, brutal, & basically NOT very thoughtful "issue" of years of "neglect" out..)

--> Posted the following message,. sent to the @StromboShowChat Twitter account, so, NOT even actually directed to ME personally
(@ me..to my personal account: @DolphinsDancer).

The Stromboo Show ‏@TheStromboShow Oct 24
"@StromboShowChat Happy birthday! Love from The Strombo Show family! #WeLoveMusic"

Here's a screencap (just in case he decides to be an additional asshole..)..& delete it..
..as well..
..since that's just been happening A LOT on Twitter lately ;):

FYI.
This message is/was also a day late..
(AGAIN, ONLY after I pt'd out how rude this exclusion has been, over the many, MANY YEARS),
..as I said..my birthday was actually Oct 23rd..on the same day as the Sunday Strombo Show that night.

(Or heck, even a quick, thoughtful Facebook PM from George - as we've chatted there over the MANY years - would've been fine too..)

So..the fact IS..
..that in like 9-10+ years of being a pretty serious supporter of the radio show (& in many way..George himself..)
(..and in a way that NO one else has done):
~ George has NEVER once played a song request for me,
~ OR mentioned the Strombo Show Chat on the show,
~ & has (until the above basically a total "PR backpedal message")
--> NEVER wished me (even indirectly) a Happy Birthday..
..(Ok..maybe once, ONLY after I brought it up in a FB msg, like a couple of years ago..
BUT it's REALLY just NOT the same when you HAVE to mention it, or remind, or blatantly point it out to someone..)

I don't know..
..but how I was raised, that IS called just damn rude, disrespectful, thoughtless, & ungrateful
..for the YEARS of "street team" support that I have shown & offered the show..including doing the work (this blog) for FREE..that is now done by paid staff.

(..and I haven't even gotten into the years of harassment from crazy Strombo stalkers, etc that I endured..
Yah. You read that right.
Years of totally nutty, crazy, beyond awful online harassment.

Honestly, I think largely b/c George wouldn't just come out & acknowledge me & the work..being done..
..is a large part of the reason(s) it occurred..but that IS another story, I'm probably never telling..as it just sucks too much).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND..just some additional background/history..
NOTE: The Strombo Show (<-- this is the more recent FB page)
has been around for ~11 years now.
As I was in the process of moving from Edmonton to Vancouver in 2005-2006 & going back to university, I didn't actually discover the show until ~late 2006-early 2007, when it was still on a previous radio station.
I started blogging & managing the "fan" chat (in a few different forms & formats), after the show moved from that other radio station, to CBC Radio 2..on November 8, 2009 and you can check out the first post..
..& the first playlist from then, when the first The Strombo Show was now at it's home on CBC Radio 2!
..and then I finally created this blog for the playlists that weren't being documented ANYwhere else.
I actually have TONS of previous playlists as well, in raw text files, for previous shows, from before I started this blog & BEFORE the show moved to CBC Radio 2..
..that aren't even up here, the goal was to..
eventually..
..after I moved back to Calgary..to back-date & archive ALL those old playlists here as well..
Obviously due to my move, then health issues, & other stuff that came up, I never got back onto that archive project.
So, who knows if I EVER will now, or if those playlists & that aspect of history of The Strombo Show, will remain hidden on my hard-drive. ;)
So..on that note..and as it seems like there's no good place to end this post..as there is SO much info still missing..
and like MOST of the posts on this blog..it's ridiculously LONG
..but I'm pretty much done with writing about this stuff for the night..
And despite how much this recent situation has pissed off
(clearly both of us, in different ways)..
..I am still listening (& posting on social media), about how much I *LOVE* The Strombo Show..
I'm just REALLY irked at George specifically..at the moment (grantedly, & quite understandably, & rightly so..)
But..a simple apology can solve that..(hint, HINT..)
However, I'm dancing & listening, & writing..here..
while listening to The Strombo Show tonight, for the Halloween, or rather..
#Stromboween..
..It IS my FAVE holiday of the year..
So in the spirit [ pun INTENDED ;) ] of radio, music & celebration of this beautiful holiday:
The Celtic New Year, Samhain, All Soul's Eve, Day/Eve of All Hallows, Hallowmas, Allhallowtide, Commemoration of All Faithful Departed, Solemnity/Feast of All Saints, Feast of All Souls, Day for All Souls, Devil's Day/Night..
..and so on..whatever name you name it by....
This beautiful holiday is not a time to be angry.
..and while finishing up this post..I was listening to Georgie's mom (there MUST some kindness, & gratitude in his heart w/such a beautiful, funny lady in his life)..talking about him as a gentle, sensitive, kind, tender-hearted little boy..
....and listening to this utterly beyond gorgeous, lovely, beautiful version & request by George's Mom of:
The Sounds Of Silence by Disturbed [Official Music Video]
..forgiveness is possible.
Forgiveness is always possible.
So..maybe that gentle, sensitive, kind, tender-hearted little boy can show up here.
As well, who can be mad, or stay mad..for long with music THAT beautiful being played by a total badass favourite band of mine.
And..besides..staying mad is also not my way/style..
..altho..yes, an apology would certainly be good.
That is all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And to end off..

A couple of songs that came to mind, or I discovered..
(..while listening to CBC Radio 2 - pre-Strombo show - I usually have the radio on in my place on Sundays from ~5pm on..& usually after the show as well for some of NightStream..
--> Sunday's REALLY ARE KILLER on CBC Radio 2!),
..or I re-heard these songs, & felt it was a perfect summation of all of this CRAZY stuff.

La La Lie - Basia Bulat - (Live In Studio @ CBC Music)
Also.. (Recorded version w/Lyrics)

Day or night
Friendly or fire
Doesn't feel right to me
I can keep up
Even though I won't feel alright for weeks
Never mind, don't pretend we know the meaning
Don't look up
Try to keep not to notice I'm leaving

When I say that I don't need help
And I promise I will be fine
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself
Can you look me straight in the eye?
There's a story for every time
And you la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to yourself

Day and night
You need advice
Don't get caught up with me
Burden of proof
I'm not confused
I wasn't even here
Never mind, don't pretend we know the meaning
Don't look down
Try to not see that you're bleeding

You can say that you don't need help
Can you look me straight in the eye?
Can you la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to yourself

I can promise myself tonight
I rehearsed and I know my lines
I can lie, lie, lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie to myself
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to myself
Can you la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to yourself

No, I know that I don't need help
There's a story for every time
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself
Oh, la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to myself
Can you lie, lie, lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to yourself?

La-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to yourself
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself
I can I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself

Timothy Bloom - The Beginning (Work It Out) (Audio)

Timothy Bloom Releases Woozy Throwback Single, ‘Work It Out’

Lyrical Excerpt
(I wrote these out from listening to the YouTube audio..so may not be correct):

"You know when you love somebody,
you gotta treat them kind.

Yah.

If you out there..you got that good one.
Never let her go.

Let me tell you why.

I took her love for granted.
(yah)
I chased all my heart, left me stranded (???)

What I'd do..to get it all back.
My love, my love.

(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)
(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)
(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)
(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)

Yahhhhhaaah.

Last time we kissed.
Oh I treasure.
'cause I'm missing those lips..now forever.

Just to get that moment back, baby..
It's driving me crazy.

You got to work it out.

Patsy Cline Singing Crazy "Live" on the Grand Ole Opry

Lyrics~Crazy-Patsy Cline

No lyrics needed.
Just Crazy.

..and
finally..

Don't Go

Hannah Georgas - Don't Go (Official Video)

I know you, you worry all the time
and now it’s because you want me to be all right
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you

How I wish you didn’t take on everybody’s pain
Cause I know every night you’re saying prayers
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you

So don’t go
don’t go on me now
don’t go
don’t cry on me now

Oh, Oh, god what the hell would I do
If you take her, I swear I’m coming too
Cause I don’t what I’d do
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you

So don’t go
don’t go on me now
don’t go
don’t cry on me now

Hold me like a child

Run fingers thru my hair
Lying on the couch
Watching tv in the basement
Hold me like a child
Run fingers thru my hair
Lying on the couch

don’t go
don’t go on me now
don’t go
don’t cry on me now

so don’t go
don’t go on my now
don’t go
don’t cry on me now

so don’t go
don’t go on my now
don’t go

don’t cry on me now

Just a real, genuine HBD (& an apology) will suffice.
That is all.

~Yours..
..always & forever.. in musical awesome-ness,

[ UPDATE: June 08, 2010; 9:09am:
~ (Highlights & Excerpts) section is up!
Along with a few other tidbits here & there...
Enjoy! ]

I was able to tag or note *MOST* of the tracks while listening to the show on Sunday, June 06th.

I did listen 2x, but the chat was busy, busy in AST/EST timezones and we had a bunch of new & new-ish ppl stopping by, plus I had one eye on the TV watching the hockey game on mute.
Also known as #howManyElectronicDevicesCanYouRunAtOneTime.. LOL. Actually... I've had more going in the past, but who's counting.
Whoa.. wish I could have sat & watched that whole game.. it looked like #playoffHockey finally showed up in this series!

[ Like the good #Habs fan I am.. I must say.. Go Hawks!
Kick some Flyer ass for me ;)

And UPDATE:
The Chicago Blackhawks have won the Stanley Cup.. in case you weren't watching for some reason..
At least Philly didn't win. So aside from it being a non-Canadian team.. and not the Habs.. I guess it's not so bad.
Time for summer.. and thinking about next year..
Go Habs Go! ]

I managed to record most of the songs in the PST timezone listen.. as the chat was really quiet then. So there will be as full & a complete list as I can muster.. as soon as I can get it up!
G12 Count Down is updated & complete. AND the full playlist is up at the end!

It *almost* makes up for my Shazam fiasco this past week.. still makes me wanna cry over all the data/tracks/info I lost.
Still hoping I might be able to get it back.. but not holding my breath. Sigh.

UPDATE: Shazam has contacted me on Twitter.. so I am getting some customer support. Only problem now is they are in the UK, so we have mega timezone differences on our DM's. But hoping it can be solved!

All tracks played on the show are in: Blue and Bold!
So they are easy to view/find/read on the page with all the other notes. Hope that helps! Feedback welcome!

Any Errors and/or Omissions are totally my fault!
IF.. you have any corrections or info that I'm missing, please comment or ping me & I'll update the blog list!
Thanks.
Enjoy.

AND.. as always.. Feedback, comments, notes, etc are ALWAYS welcome!

*** And please note.. the G12 Count Down (and full playlist this time) is now posted up The Strombo Show Website as of sometime on June 09, 2010 (afternoon-ish I think)! ***

However, George is leaving this week for a road-trip (along with a few of his producer types). I think they are doing some video stuff for The Hour.

George is doing it on motorbike, and I think one of his producer buds is driving. Then I believe Mr. Stroumboulopoulos heads to LA for a bit.. for the summer.

MINI-UPDATE:
G also mentioned on Twitter today (yesterday), well June 07/10 that he was packing his motorbike.. which is indeed a feat when doing a long road trip.

I've done that many, MANY times. But on a GoldWing (and sometimes w/a Quickcamp Trailer).. so there is a hellva a lot more space on it than most bikes.

Anyways.. since I can't offer George my seriously sexy and awesome Tetris packing prowess & powers from here..

I can at least post the song he mentioned he had on repeat whilst figuring out the loading & balancing of the gear on the bike
(and if you have a trailer.. tongue weight.. oy!) And hell.. just making sure everything that you want, or need to bring will fit in those wee saddlebags! Ugh.. but worth it.. for the ride!

Song is (direct link): Kurtis Mantronik - Mad

Or embedded:

Kurtis Mantronik (deets) - From Wikipedia.

So.. I ended up with it on repeat as well today (& yesterday).. b/c.. well.. if you've listened.. you'll know why... but I had to stop after about 10x.. as I wasn't getting a single thing done b/c I was dancing around.. dancing in my chair.. grooving w/my water bottle, or mug of tea in my hand.. and generally accomplishing nada!

However.. if you managed to get any packing done while listening G.. VERY IMPRESSIVE.

Oh.. and don't forgot your first aid kit (& bike tool kit)!
Always important to have.. and hope you never have to use 'em!
Two o'the most important bits on the bike.. even before your toothbrush & towel IMHO :)

And I'm wishing for a safe and beautiful sunny ride all the way from TO to LA for ya!

I'd tell you what this video clip is.. but it's my going away present for you. Surprise! ;)

We'll miss ya G (and The Hour), but have fun playing.. and don't do anything I wouldn't do (which keeps it pretty open.. lol ;) And if you happen to feel like driving back on your way home via Vancouver & taking me for a bike ride.. that'd be ok too.. haha...

So I'm hoping they can still get some of the missing shows up.. (over at Strombo.com) and this show's streaming "web-cast" would be awesome too (hint, hint).. as I know A LOT of people missed the show this Sunday, with having to pick btwn music & playoff hockey again.

Plus.. on 2nd listen.. I realized this show might be in my top 5 shows.. (from the move to CBC Radio 2 ones..) I'm still pining away for that missing show & playlist from December 20th, 2010.
I'd be so happy.. (AND I'll make you more cookies.. just let me know where to mail 'em) if you managed to get that up for me..
Think of it as a belated X-mas prezzie for me! ;)

[ I keep evolving this layout each week (but working on a template/regular format to stick with & make my life easier & to get the playlist up sooner!).. and now coding it in either Notepad, or since I'm VERY visual & really like color-coding ;) & didn't put Visual Studo back on my computer.. I'm using FrontPage.. but a newer non-evil-ish version..
So if you have any suggestions/ideas, please let me know by commenting somewhere on the blog. ]

And.. I decided last week that the list being 1-12 here instead of
12-1 like it is on the show and in the full playlist hurt my head, so I changed it to the proper order of things. No one has complained, so I'm going with it.

G12 Count Down ~ June 06, 2010
[ My NOTEs in italics ]

[ UPDATE (June 10, 2010): As mentioned above G12 confirmed!

Might be Thurs/Friday before I'll have any time to search to finalize or confirm it, unless The Strombo Show Website gets it up sooner. ]

[ Thanks to @kelgura, @wildworks, @ragzey_z (Alex), @KerriGwen, (and anyone else I may have missed.. sorry..) in the Skype chat on Sunday night at various times for your help in catching the songs & band names! ]

G12 - #12: Zeus - At The Risk Of Repeating
Last week #12: Kings Go Forth - I Don't Love You No More

[ I hunted about last week a wee bit and couldn't find much for Zeus at the time. Since they are here in the G12 again, different song,
I'll see what I can root up this week on them, free tracks maybe...
if you have any cool links.. post 'em in the comments. Thanks!

Last weeks song #7 song was by Zeus, so you can at least have a listen if you liked them. Last.FM: Zeus – The Renegade ]

G12 - #11: Club 8 - Western Hospitality
Last week #11: Voyager One – 1,000 Miles, 1,000 Deaths

[ Yah.. Again.. from The Strombo Show Chat Fan Crew for the #10 countdown track intro w/The Count! ♥'ing it, as always! ]

G12 - #10: Gabriel Mintz - Desert Sky
Last week #10: Ten Bears - Braces
[ I didn't personally catch the name/track here at all.. so Thanks to @kelgura for this one & confirmation from The Strombo Show Website. ]

G12 - #9: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Last week #9: Band of Horses - Dilly
[ This is a new "Arcade Fire" song... more deets to come.. I just can't recall anything else right now. ]

G12 - #8: Drake (Feat. Lil' Wayne) - Miss Me
Last week #8: Broken Social Scene - Texaco Bitches
[ Wow. REALLY? Drake & Lil' Wayne on The Strombo Show..
on CBC Radio 2.. AND in the G12 CountDown?!?
Someone call the mainstream music police on G.
Please. Right the EFF now. And..
< ::examine head for possible damage.. maybe from his last motorcycle crash:: />
I'll have some "comments from the chat" up later.

[ Comments from the chat.. LOL:
Apparently someone did a survey of key words on the pages of his fans (I assume Drake's) on FB, and apparently his fans are superdumb. (They judged that based on grammatical correctness of their posts etc. Not sure how well it'd hold up scientifically...)
But.. I could totally see that correlation...

I just think (personally) that ANY rap singer.. or any in general that feels the need to mention their name in their song.. in ANY capcity.. over and over and over and over and over (ok.. you get the picture) again.. is just lame! #justSayin'. ]

Pavement - Unseen Power Of The Picket Fence
[ We had "Pavement" and then went straight into the Bob segment.. with Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist.

I have that up now.. in the Highlights & Excerpts section below. Good stuff in here tho.. and some great stories.

I think that is one of the things that makes a show really awesome.. not just fantastic songs, but the take-away stories the guys & G tell.

Hope to see this show up on The Strombo Show Website soon. (Have I mentioned this enough times yet?)
I can't wait to re-listen, as I often miss these "boy gossip bits"
(even listening 2x in 2 different timezones) with hosting the chat.. ]

G12 - #7: Megafaun - Volunteers
Last week #7: Zeus – (The) Renegade
[ Confirmed per Strombo.com
Haven't tried to search them out again now that I have the correct spelling. May still find some links later. ]

[ Confirmed.. "Ten Bears - Braces" is the G6, and it was in the G12 CountDown last wk @ G10. ]
G12 - #6: Ten Bears - Braces
Last week #6: Gord Downie - The Hard Canadian

G12 - #5: Shad - Lucky 1's
[ UPDATED: At least I had kinda guessed it close.. ]
Last week #5: LCD Soundsystem - Somebody's Calling Me

[ Bunch of other songs here.. including: ]

K-OS - Uptown Girl
James Brown - Please, Please, Please
The Normal - Warm Leatherette

[ And.. Ten o'Clock w/Tom.
More on that later.. in the Highlights & Excerpts section, as I have LOTS to say on this.. lots o'good stuff ;) ]

[ Bunch more other songs here.. including what sounded like some requests.. or maybe they were later.. I forget atm. ]

G12 - #4: Woods - Blood Dries Darker
Last week #4: The Chemical Brothers - Swoon
[ I did have this song listed below in the Highlights & Excerpts section.. but yah. It's G4. Confirmed. And you can have a listen here at the Your Third Dear Blog and the Woods mySpace.
NOTE: "Blood Dries Darker" is not on the mySpace playlist, hence the other link. ]

G12 - #3: LCD Soundsystem: Dance Yrself Clean
Last week #3: Mark Ronson - Bang Bang Bang (Feat. Q-Tip & MDNR)
[ Woo Hoo. REALLY liked this song.. Glad it's been confirmed as being in the G12.

I think there was a mention of an album.. "This Is Happening" (not Is This Happening as I heard it).. was released May 17, 2010. I seem to remember that now from a few shows ago.. maybe the May 16th show.. as that would make some sense right?

And the start of this song reminds me of a Blue October song.. very interesting. Can you guess which one?!

The LCD Soundsystem mySpace. I believe I may have posted this one before, but the G3 song is not one of the ones in the playlist there. Too bad! Looking for other links & DLs still... ]

G12 - #2: Earl Greyhound - Ghost And The Witness
Last week #2: Shad - Rose Garden
[ And confirmed. And some treats for you that I've had since Sunday, but had to go back thru the chat logs to find them..

The Earl Greyhound Website and Earl Greyhound mySpace
The G2 track: Ghost And The Witness is up on their mySpace if you want to have a listen again. Love that guitar.

If you sign up for their mailing list, you get a FREE song. I just did it.

And apparently you can also get another song if you follow them on Twitter: @earlgreyhound. Which I will as soon as I feel like I can move off following 909 ppl (b/c it looks so cool).. or I've 909 ppl following me.. (which ever comes first)!

And another FREE track download is available I've heard.. if you follow them on Facebook (I'll find that one later if you don't first..).

Thanks to @kelgura on Twitter for a the main website link, Twitter tip-off, etc.. on free tracks & DLs (short for DownLoads in case you don't know)! ]

G12 - #1: Neon Indian - Sleep Paralysist
[ NOTE: on their mySpace & Wikipedia the spelling is different for the track than on Strombo.com (they had "Sleep Paralysis") maybe a typo.. so I'd say that "Sleep Paralysist" is actually the correct spelling, as I have put above. ]
Last week #1: The Black Keys - Everlasting Light
[ Wow. I so didn't even get this one at all on Sunday, but also now confirmed. ]

[ The Neon Indian Wikipedia and Neon Indian mySpace
I just re-listened, and I was right.. I did keep hearing "Don't Sleep", so it makes sense that I thought that it was the song title.

And over at Stereogum.com there is this "article": Neon Indian – "Sleep Paralysist". Wow. Is he cute or what!?! ]

[ NOTE: That's the best I've got ATM on the missing tracks. Please comment if you have anything I missed! TIA.

I'll have a chance hopefully sometime in the next few days to have a listen to the missing tracks to get the rest of the correct info up.

UPDATE: The mother ship.. I mean.. The Strombo Show Website has posted the full playlist, so I "stole"... I mean... confirmed what I was missing from them (only ~3-4 songs actually... so not too bad, if I might say so)!

Thanks and spanks, and kisses and cookies boys! ;) ]

The Strombo Show Playlist: June 06, 2010 (Highlights & Excerpts) section

Ok.. the (Highlights & Excerpts) sections is up & mostly done.. but loads more I can put in here if I find the time!

And the fully "embedded" playlist.. is done.. at the very end!

~ I'm still working on the rest of the FULL playlist/"Embedded" layout like I've done in the past...

~ But this section offers some more of the comments, details, etc from the show...

If you're new to reading the blog... posts typically go up in 3 different updates/phases..
1. Get the G12 up likely Sunday night/Monday morning.
2. Update (usually) with: The Strombo Show Playlist: (Highlights & Excerpts) section.
3. Update (hopefully) with: The (full) Strombo Show Playlist Complete w/G12 "Embedded"
Hope you like the format.. comments are welcome!

We had the following "excerpts" from Sunday..

~ Yah! Bob Mackowycz was back this past Sunday!
[ We've missed you Bob. Welcome back. ]

[ We had "Pavement" and then went straight into the Bob segment.. with Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist. ]

Pavement - Unseen Power Of The Picket Fence

[ So not only will you see that they played a number of fantastic songs, but there was some really great stories from Bob & G.
I'll get into them even more in a later update, as I only have so much time right now... and can't remember them all.

But seriously.. you just need to hear the show to truly appreciate it!

SO.. REALLY hoping to see this show up on The Strombo Show Website ASAP! I can't wait to re-listen, as I really want to hear the chats again! ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #1 (Bob's pick):
Outcast - Bombs over Baghdad (B.O.B.)
[ Haha.. anyone else notice that Bob's 1st choice was B.O.B.! LMAO.
Also... "the funky Baba".. I nearly died laughing at this comment.
And I love the shot G totally takes.. at Bob.. and Bob just ignored it.. "you don't drive" (You had to be listening really paying attention to hear/catch it.. G mumbled..) LMAO. So funny. ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #2 (Bob's pick, I think):
Josh Rouse - Lemon Tree
[ I completely missed the commentary prior to this song being played.. but I was still thinking they were talking about songs you'd play while driving in your car..

And the first time I listened (missing the commentary of course)..
I wrote this in the chat session:
"this is a lazy day summer song.. you'd play this on the stereo at the beach.. having a nap, or sitting on the grass at English Bay late aft.. not blasting outta a car.."

And lo & behold.. 2nd listen.. that's pretty much what they were actually talking about.. holy diffusion batman... ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #3 (more of an "Audible" really):
The Lemonheads - Mrs. Robinson
[ Oh... serious, serious flashback here! ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #4 (G's pick):
Steve Miller Band - The Joker
[ Ohh.. the story that goes along w/this song.. sooooo good. So cute. So sweet. Hahaha... And I know what Bob means when he talks about sports bars... playing it on repeat..
I worked in one in Uni.. actually doing my massage therapy training.. whoa.. back in ~95-96.. lol.
Thankfully I like the song.. but then they put in a juke-box in.. to be "old-school" and the pool league would come in on Sunday nights & I'd be stuck listening to "The Joker" like 10x a night. ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #5 (Bob's pick):
Miles Davis - Bye Bye Blackbird (to counter Steve Miller ;)
[ Nice hearing some Sunday night jazz on Radio 2 again.. takes me back to listening pre-Strombo show.
And I *love* Miles Davis.. he can be in my musical world everyday.. ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #6 (I think this was G's pick):
Bran Van 3000 - Drinking in L.A.
[ I missed the pre-amble for this song... so NO clue what the reason/reference was for playing it. ]

Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist - #7 (Bob's pick, but G was in on it.. ): AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
[ All I'm gonna say here is: "junior head-banger". LOL. Loving it.
I remember the first time I heard this song. Let's just say.. I was maybe 7-9-ish yrs old. Ugh. I just holy totally dated myself.
I now need to hear some "KISS - I Was Made for Lovin' You"! ]

A Primitive Evolution - Beyond True
[ Updated: But still not sure if it was part of the Bob & G's Summer Song Playlist?

I don't think it was for some reason. All I remember was hearing.. maybe the lyrics "won't let you down"? Maybe? I could just be making sh!t up at this pt. < ::shrug:: />. Now I know what it is, I'm off to listen! ]

Metric - Stadium Love
[ Loving some Metric. It's been a while.

Then we did return to the G12 Countdown here.
Infinitely more fun when I have all the tracks confirmed... ]

G12 - #7: Megafaun - Volunteers
Last week #7: Zeus – (The) Renegade
[ Confirmed per The Strombo Show Website. Haven't tried to search them out again now that I have the correct spelling.
May still find some links. ]

G12 - #6: Ten Bears - Braces
Last week #6: Gord Downie - The Hard Canadian
[ Confirmed.. "Ten Bears - Braces" is the G6, and it was in the G12 CountDown last wk @ G10. ]

G12 - #5: Shad - Lucky 1's
Last week #5: LCD Soundsystem - Somebody's Calling Me

[ UPDATED: At least I had kinda guessed it close.. since I knew it had be this one... or K-OS - Uptown Girl. ]
K-OS - Uptown Girl
[ Either way... to my knowledge this song was played here. ]

[ Bunch of other songs here.. including: ]

James Brown - Please, Please, Please
The Normal - Warm Leatherette

~ Ten O'Clock with Tom: Tom Waits - Downtown Train

[ Sigh. If only this had been a request.. for me.. it'd have been spot on. This is by far my FAVE Tom Waits song!

I hunted and hunted, but couldn't find the version I wanted.. w/the story intro... maybe it's been taken down. I'll keep looking, but I think this is the "original".. "offical" video?
Tom Waits - Downtown Train

And embedded.. b/c I like it so much (but wanna give ppl a choice): ]

[ I missed the G4 to G1 somehow when listening.. but the full playlist is now up on The Strombo Show Website. Which is awesome, except the embedded video in the update isn't working.. or at least when I last tried to play it. So I've confirmed the rest of the missing G12 CountDown list here and some of the songs that were played in this section are as follows: ]

Michael Andrews Feat. Gary Jule - Mad World (Alternative Mix)
Patti Smith - P**s (Piss) Factory
[ And interesting to hear.. since Patti Smith is the Album Side featured as well. ]

Buzzcocks - What Do I Get?
[ Yes. Another one of the reasons I so ♥ The Strombo Show.
The Buzzcocks need to be on every show.. except, I don't think they have that many songs.

(So good thing it's not "Radio Nine o'Clock w/the Buzzcocks", as at least Tom Waits has such a massive discography.. that it would be years before G would run out of Tom songs. ]

Stereo MC's - Connected
[ Hells Yeah. Dancing around my living room.. and I know I wasn't the only one having a wee dance party when this song came on.
Let me tell ya! (And I think this was a request for "Jeffie"?) ]

G12 - #4: Woods - Blood Dries Darker
[ It's G4. Confirmed. I did have this song listed here in the Highlights & Excerpts section.. originally.. so yeah me! Lol. ]

G12 - #3: LCD Soundsystem: Dance Yrself Clean
[ Lots of deets, info & links up in the G12 list.
And the start of this song reminds me of a Blue October song..
Can you guess which one?! ]

Stone Temple Pilots - Big Empty

[ And I noticed right about here that it seemed like we were missing something. That we hadn't and weren't likely going to hear from Rich Terfry tonight.

There were a lot of songs being played for quite a stretch here and NO talking.

~ So... NO Rich this week. Damn.

Hope it's not a one or the other thing now.. Bob or Rich, not both?! Not sure I could pick.. :( ]

Faith No More - I'm Easy
[ I have had this song in my head since Sunday. Actually since Sunday morning.. (before it was played on the show..) when I got home from #dancingTilDawn and posted this on Twitter:
"So I'm making #perogies.. @ ~4am. This's what happens when you don't drink or do substances, you get home from the party VERY hungry! ;) LOL"
4:11 AM Jun 6th via HootSuite
I'm still singing it right now. Good thing I like it.. a lot. But this version is the best. ]

Sublime - Waiting For My Ruca
[ Also REALLY liked the "Sublime" song.. Sadly, it was not in the G12 as I had hoped... maybe another time.

And.. When I wrote before:
(Missed a track here.. Vampire something.. Vampire Hands? Vampire... sigh.)

Who know I was actually rather close..
Umm.. Vampire anything snaps my head around.. so I will trapise off to Goggle to find out more about Vampire Hands.. for me.. and for you! Actually found LOTS o'cool stuff to share.. and will post later.. as I'm too tired right now ;) ]

Vampire Hands - Paradise Knight Fights

Broken Bells - Mongrel Heart
The Shins - Turn On Me
New York Dolls - Personality Crisis

[ Had this track correct in the G12, but not it's placement.
Now all is right in the world ;) ]
G12 - #2: Earl Greyhound - Ghost And The Witness
Last week #2: Shad - Rose Garden
[ Links, downloads and info galore above in the G12 CountDown Listing Section! ]

G12 - #1: Neon Indian - Sleep Paralysist
Last week #1: The Black Keys - Everlasting Light
[ And the G1. So here ends the G12 CountDown for another week. ]

Le Tigre - The The Empty
[ Ummm.. not much good I can say about "Le Tigre".. NOT like-y! Really didn't enjoy. As in.. bad, bad song.. makes me want to do bad things.. like shoot stuff.. or ppl.. like her. Nuff said. It really irriated me. Like it could be used for torture.. I'm pretty sure. ]

M.I.A. - Born Free (Radio Version)

[ Since I missed a whole wack o'the latter G12 songs..

I've tried to put up everything else in the playlist and all the others I did catch.. so *almost* kinda a full playlist sneak peek.. right here... since I'm nice to y'all that way.

And the FULL playlist is up BELOW!
Hey. I think someone needs to make *ME* cookies here.

And b/c George played some awesome sexy stuff here (and next as well)..

I couldn't wait to list 'em. And have now moved this stuff down into the Highlights & Excerpts section *RIGHT HERE*.. and full playlist section at the end.. If I can bloody well figure out the songs I missed! ;) ]

Queens Of The Stone Age - God Is In The Radio
[ Freaking loved hearing this song on the radio. Brilliant! ]

Slayer - South Of Heaven
[ Ohhh.. OHHHH. My *FAVE* Slayer song. I'm kinda in heaven myself still right now.. Thanks G. ]

Into the Album Side: Patti Smith - Horses

~ "Album Side": Patti Smith - Horses
[ Details from the Wikipedia: Patti Smith - Horses and
Wikipedia: Patti Smith ]

[ Side 1. ]
[ 1. "Gloria" (Patti Smith, Van Morrison) – 5:57
Part I: "In Excelsis Deo"
Part II: "Gloria"
2."Redondo Beach" (Smith, Richard Sohl, Lenny Kaye) – 3:26
3. "Birdland" (Smith, Sohl, Kaye, Ivan Kral) – 9:15
4. "Free Money" (Smith, Kaye) – 3:52 ]

Album Side #1: Patti Smith - Gloria
Part I: "In Excelsis Deo"
Part II: "Gloria"
[ I'm assuming that both these parts listed were played since it was a straight-thru on the album side. ]
Album Side #2: Patti Smith - Redondo Beach
Album Side #3: Patti Smith - Birdland
Album Side #4: Patti Smith - Free Money
[ The end.. of the "Album Side". ]

~ The "Big Lie-Down"
[ And once again it appears we went straight from the "Album Side" into the "Big-Lie Down". With George going right to the midnight hour AGAIN.. just fitting in the last 3-4 tracks of the show!

Pretty amazing timing.. I know. I've done radio.
Can't imagine what 4 HOURS of programming is like though.. ]

From the "Big Lie-Down" segment of the show:
[ I think the "Intro/Background Music" (taking us to the collective horizontal) was here.. ]

Collective Horizontal - The Big "Lie-Down" - #1:
James Blackshaw - Skylarks Harolds Dawn
[ Ok. I was close.. w/my guess of.. (Something..) Herald's Dawn.
I kinda missed this track.. I'll confirm it later. Just roll with it for now.. unless you know... then comment & correct me! I don't mind.
Gorgeous, gorgeous song tho.. so I WILL find out more.. and share it with you! Found lots of links, but not of the song yet.. will post later.. when eyes can remain open! ]

Collective Horizontal - The Big "Lie-Down" - #2:
Black Mountain - Night Walks
[ Ummmmm.. Black Mountain. ]

Collective Horizontal - The Big "Lie-Down" - #3:
Pink Mountaintops - How Can We Get Free
[ Pink Mountaintops. Awesome. Not my fave song by them.. but they are seriously pretty, pretty and perfect Big "Lie-Down" tunes! ]

[ Last song of the night.. that I Shazam'd... maybe it wasn't part of the show, but a part of Nightstream?!! Which means George finished a bit early. And it isn't on the playlist up on The Strombo Show Website, so I guess that means no. Hence the strike-thru. But I left it as a few people asked me about what the song name was. ]
Collective Horizontal - The Big "Lie-Down" - #4:
Daniel Johns / Paul Mac - 3

May 09, 2010: The Strombo Show Playlist (& G12 Count Down)

The Strombo Show Playlist [ Mostly complete?! ]
and G12 Count Down [ Updated/Complete ]: May 09, 2010

[ UPDATE: May 13; 2010; ~2:00-ish AM! Looks like I have most of the playlist up now.. I may have missed 1 or 2 tracks here & there (which I noted in that spot), but it's pretty darn close. ]

The G12 Countdown is for sure confirmed and of course there are George's motorcycle videos!

I've now moved all the motorcycle race stuff to it's own post here: George's First Motorcycle Race! In order to make room for all the playlist stuff I've added.

I was able to tag or note *MOST* of the tracks while listening to the show 2x on Sunday, May 9th. Since I was hosting the chat session as well, I may have missed a few as I was distracted, but as I said above, there is as full/complete a list as I have done below!

Starting in this post (and I'll back-track in time to the other posts in time), all tracks played on the show are in:
Blue and Bold!
So they are easy to view/find/read on the page with all the other notes. Hope that helps!

Any Errors and/or Omissions are totally my fault!
IF.. you have any corrections or info that I'm missing, please comment or ping me & I'll update the blog list!
Thanks. Enjoy.

Feedback, comments, notes, etc are ALWAYS welcome!

And please note.. the G12 Count Down is now up on The Strombo Show Website! What did I say.. by mid-week-ish.. Yah. You heard it here ;)

[ UPDATE May 12, 2010; ~12:11am: Thanks to @kelgura for some posts on Twitter to help me with a few of the G12 tracks I was still confirming and for letting me know that Exclaim.ca had the D/L of "The Flatliners - Carry The Banner".

Seems I had everything except "The Flatliners - Carry The Banner" & I was in the process of listening to their mySpace page (link above) to track it down.

As well.. it looks like the full G12 is now up on The Strombo Show Website, so I confirmed there as well for accuracy! (I'm guessing thanks to Darby for that update are in order. All Hail King Darby! ;) ]

The Strombo Show Playlist: May 09, 2010 (Highlights & Excerpts)

~ The rest of it should be relatively complete below! I kept this section in for more of the comments, etc.

With the following tidbits..

~ Bob Mackowycz's Mother's Day picks, sorta...
[ (A Sad-off... that I think I totally missed somehow.. both times?!
I actually don't think they did it... but they talked about. I'm confused here.) ]

And some Mother's Day picks for both Bob's mom, and his wife Sandra who became a new mom this year with their new baby girl, or I think the song was actually for his daughter.. as she likes it.

[ If you missed the actual show, I'll explain later why the next 3-4 songs were played. ]

Prince - Bat Dance
Pulp - This Is Hardcore
Busta Rhymes - Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check [ Acappella ver. I think ]

Great Lake Swimmers - Pulling On A Line

~ Ten O'Clock with Tom: Tom Waits - Soldier's Things

~ George's Mom: George calls his Mom to wish her Happy Mother's Day and to get a request from her (very funny actually).
He plays: Jim Reeves - Four Walls .. for her.. [ but she first asked him to play "Kate Smith - God Bless America" and he laughed.. A LOT and refused! Funniest thing of the evening.. in my opinion... ]

~ Rich's Picks: for an interesting Sunday night historical journey into New York City, 1987 rap, etc
[ FYI. In case you are listening to the show once it is posted up & you have younger kids around.. It was just @oldschoolgirl (Sarah) & StromboShowChat Collective team in the chat.. and we were just wondering.. if anyone on CBCRadio2 has said 'blowjob' before? Just curious. LMAO! };> ]

[ If I recall correctly, this was just an audible they called before Rich's picks. In reference to NYC... ]
The Ramones - 53rd & 3rd

PJ Harvey - The Garden
Cash Money & Marvellous - Ugly People Be Quiet [ Ok, I'm pretty sure this is the right song. I just don't remember G & Rich saying the name, but do I recall the Tears For Fears sample @ the start! ]

[ So they'd call an audible and played this "classic": ]
Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels

[ And this next song, was a song Rich wanted to always hear/request on the radio. ]
Joy Division - She Lost Control

~ An educational, historical, & awesome "Album Side": Soul Rebels - Bob Marley & The Wailers

[ Soul Rebels is an album by The Wailers, their first album to be released outside of Jamaica. Plenty more information over at the Wikipedia on Soul Rebel. ]

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Soul Rebel
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Try Me
Bob Marley & The Wailers - It's Alright **
[ ** It was later re-recorded and retitled "Night Shift" for Rastaman Vibration. ]
Bob Marley & The Wailers - No Sympathy
[ (Also credited to/with Peter Tosh) ]
Bob Marley & The Wailers - My Cup
[ (Also credited to/with Bob Marley/Lee "Scratch" Perry) ]
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Soul Almighty

~ A lovely "Big-Lie Down" with a request for a regular listener of the Strombo Show (Alex), a regular visitor to the tapings of The Hour.. and of course a regular participant in this Strombo Show Chat (altho she was traveling w/her family on Sunday night listening in the car, so couldn't join us on-line in the chat session on Sunday night).

As far I can recall.. we went straight from the "Album Side" into the "Big-Lie Down".

Upward Over The Mountain ~ A Sneaky Peek At May 9, 2010 Strombo Show

UPDATE:

As promised.. but a bit later than planned as it's REALLY freaking sunny in Vancouver right now! So much so... that I kinda got a bit distracted by sunny activities and now the Habs game.. that I'm actually attempting to work on this update while on the commercial breaks.. (ok.. well, I'm trying but Don Cherry is going on.. so... "very effective".. uh.. NOT!)

I was saying yesterday...
That... I was given a wee sneaky peek & some hints about what's coming up on the: May 9, 2010 Strombo Show

Hee hee.. here's what I know..

Well, for starters it's Mother's Day tomorrow, and we know how much George adores his mom.. so I'm thinking we're going to see some Mom Day requests (maybe some "dedications"... we can hope?!) & he didn't call her last week... so you gotta figure we're going to hear from her this Sunday (now I don't know this for sure.. but it'd be a pretty good guess right?) And if we don't.. George.. seriously.. your Mom should be a regular on your show.. she's that awesome!

So we're sure hoping the nation's Mom shows up.
Actually... in fact, I think most of us would date you just for your Mom. Just sayin' ;)

And I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd be very excited to hear from her again, to hear her song pics and stories about George and to hear G's voice change, and get all super soft and sweet when he talks to his mom.

That'd be a collective... Awwwwwwww... all across the country.

Either way.. Happy Mother's Day to George's Mom (& his Baba)!

And Happy Mother's Day to my own MOM! And my sister-in-law & my aunts.. (& my Baba & Grandma who've both passed on.. thinking of you lovely ladies always).

And of course.. Happy Mother's Day to mom's everywhere!

And that hint I left you with...

I do know that we are going to hear some requests on Sunday.. and this will be one of them:

Upward Over The Mountain
by Iron & Wine

Mother don't worry, I killed the last snake that lived in the creek bed
Mother don't worry, I've got some money I saved for the weekend
Mother remember being so stern with that girl who was with me
Mother remember the blink of an eye when I breathed through your body

So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Sons are like birds flying upwards over the mountain

Mother I made it up from the bruise on the floor of this prison
Mother I lost it all of the fear of the Lord I was given
Mother forget me now that the creek drank the cradle you sang to
Mother forgive me I sold your car for the shoes that I gave you

So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Sons can be birds taken broken up to the mountain

Mother don't worry I've got a coat and some friends on the corner
Mother don't worry she's got a garden we're it planting together
Mother remember the night that the dog had her pups in the pantry
Blood on the floor and the fleas in their paws
And you cried 'til the morning

So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Sons are like birds flying always over the mountain
