Changes..(not of the Bowie kind)..(a not so) short update-ish..about sorta weird & crazy (should be close) encounters of the missing birthday kind..

Well..
It's been an interesting bit of a run as of late here..

And I can see that there's been a bunch of traffic coming to the blog lately, so figured I should do a "not-so-brief-ish" ;) update-ish now to explain things going on..
..but there are also a few more posts on related topics..& others, that are on the (back) burner..

First off (some background/reminders)..

I stopped posting to this blog specifically for a couple of reasons (and I never said a proper "goodbye" due to reason #2 below):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. I used to the be the ONLY one that posted/shared the playlists of The Strombo Show
(they seem to have conveniently forgotten THAT fact)
..but then George got an Intern, & then Staff that do that/those tasks (& get PAID for it)..
& they post them over on the CBC Music site (brutal changes to that website in the recent months tho..but more on that later)..
..AND..I'll *try* post a link to where that stuff is..later..
IF I can find it/figure out the wacky things they've done to that website.
It's complicated..when, where it used to be simple & straightforward.
2. I then moved from Vancouver back to Calgary in ~late 2012/early 2013 (but didn't have much time prior w/move planning to post, or to even put a "we're on hold, be back..later" message up here).
And then when I got to Calgary, I didn't have the time to blog here on Strombo Show topics, as well as focus on the things I needed to do be doing in other parts of my life.
So, with the intern --> staff now doing the playlists, I backed off doing & posting to the blog on any #StromboShow topics
(I do have ~50+ Drafts tho..& that doesn't count the archive playlists that have never been posted anywhere else - more on that later)
..or even music related topics, as that was always intended to be the longer term focus & goal of this blog as well
..to continue to collaborate (with The Strombo Show of course) & maybe other CBC Radio 2 shows (b/c they are cool & unique & the best)..
..and also share other great MUSIC info.
B/c..as much as I'm pissed at George right now (see below), the phrase #WeLoveMusic is as much something that belongs here,
& while it belongs to the show, & the "fans" & supporters of the show
..just as much as it also does speak to just a LOVE of ALL music in general
AND..
..therefore it also belongs to music lovers & fans, everywhere, regardless of The Strombo Show connection!
I also since in early 2014 & until just recently had/have been dealing w/some serious, unexpected health issues, including a major "emergency" surgery in late 2014. And then, over the past few years since, have been working to focus on getting my health back to former levels..& also on getting my business(es) going again & re-established here in Calgary.
That become my priority, getting my health back to a good, preferably great place, FIRST & foremost, before ANYthing else..
..hopefully understandably so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So..on to the partial reason for this post, & changes/updates/limbo that the @StromboShowChat & ultimately this blog as well..
..are going through..
..might be going through..
Involve the following:

It was time to just call George..Strombo (if you call him that..I don't..I can't..I don't know why..but it just doesn't feel right to me)..out on some BULLSHIT.

However..he REALLY does NOT like that..(being "called out")
..altho..in truth..
It is what you say to people G, what ask them to do..
..to ask questions, be curious, challenge everything
(YES darlin'..EVEN YOU)..
AND hold you accountable (to the standards, the things that you have stated, & set out for the show..& for yourself).

So why the heck are you mad when I do just that?

Well..the truth is..that isn't the truth, or the case.

IF you challenge George, IF you ask him to BE accountable..
..he gets PISSED off.
(..at least at me.. :/ )

Usually, the REALLY SUPER
(like has lashed out in anger at me..in Twitter DM, or FB PM
- those are private messages tho, so you'll just have to take my word on it, as I won't share ANY private, confidential exchanges -
Sorry. Privacy is paramount to me (& I know to George as well).
..or like unfollows you on Twitter, or does some other passive aggressive, indirect things..the list is TOO long, etc)
..kind of PISSED off.

But..
Despite that risk, that he'd/he'll be angry at me..
(maybe forever, who knows..he IS stubborn)!
But..so am I, I suppose. ;)

..I STILL and ALWAYS will challenge him, and continue to ask him smart, intelligent, thoughtful, thought-out, exploring..
and..yes, challenging questions..

..AND, yes..hold him accountable.

That's who I am, that is what my ethics & integrity & my own "punk rock" beliefs stand for..

SO..
You'd think he'd respect that?
(instead of kinda being an ass about it)
..based on his own assertions, statements..

..and especially..the ethos of The Strombo Show
(& also George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight & back to  The Hour),
and the years of "his brand" development, etc..

But who knows what's going on there..
Maybe one day he'll explain himself.
To me.
<shrug>.
You'll notice, I'm not holding my breath tho. ;)

So..you might be wondering..
WHAT ON EARTH did you (I/me) do to piss George off THAT much?

Well..
All I pointed out (and asked), that after 9-10+ YEARS..of yes..THAT LONG
..of support & having his back (in countless, endless ways I can't EVEN begin to list & share here),
& then ALL The Strombo Show (Chat) Blog work (done for FREE!)..& lots of it behind the scenes, so this blog & the Twitter, etc, etc..don't even begin to encapsulate it..

..you'd think someone like that (ahem..ME)..
could actually get Happy Birthday mention
(or heck, EVEN a private message)
..or a song request played on the show..
or SOMETHING.

AND..
..this year (2016)..the radio show even fell on my birthday/Oct 23rd, so you'd think maybe, hey..that should be..like a given.
Right?

No.
Not even that.
#notEVENaHBD
Not once.
NOT ONCE in 9-10+years..?!?

As, when you really think about, it's a simple thing to do.
A kind, sweet, generous thing.
A tiny, simple, easy way to demonstrate some gratitude.
The thoughtful, nice, caring thing to do.

AND..YET..
..he couldn't even do that?

They did (I assume The Strombo Show staff)
(..BUT ONLY after I pt'd this glaring, brutal, & basically NOT very thoughtful "issue" of years of "neglect" out..)

--> Posted the following message,. sent to the @StromboShowChat Twitter account, so, NOT even actually directed to ME personally
(@ me..to my personal account: @DolphinsDancer).

The Stromboo Show ‏@TheStromboShow Oct 24
"@StromboShowChat Happy birthday! Love from The Strombo Show family! #WeLoveMusic"

Here's a screencap (just in case he decides to be an additional asshole..)..& delete it..
..as well..
..since that's just been happening A LOT on Twitter lately ;):

FYI.
This message is/was also a day late..
(AGAIN, ONLY after I pt'd out how rude this exclusion has been, over the many, MANY YEARS),
..as I said..my birthday was actually Oct 23rd..on the same day as the Sunday Strombo Show that night.

(Or heck, even a quick, thoughtful Facebook PM from George - as we've chatted there over the MANY years - would've been fine too..)

So..the fact IS..
..that in like 9-10+ years of being a pretty serious supporter of the radio show (& in many way..George himself..)
(..and in a way that NO one else has done):
~ George has NEVER once played a song request for me,
~ OR mentioned the Strombo Show Chat on the show,
~ & has (until the above basically a total "PR backpedal message")
--> NEVER wished me (even indirectly) a Happy Birthday..
..(Ok..maybe once, ONLY after I brought it up in a FB msg, like a couple of years ago..
BUT it's REALLY just NOT the same when you HAVE to mention it, or remind, or blatantly point it out to someone..)

I don't know..
..but how I was raised, that IS called just damn rude, disrespectful, thoughtless, & ungrateful
..for the YEARS of "street team" support that I have shown & offered the show..including doing the work (this blog) for FREE..that is now done by paid staff.

(..and I haven't even gotten into the years of harassment from crazy Strombo stalkers, etc that I endured..
Yah. You read that right.
Years of totally nutty, crazy, beyond awful online harassment.

Honestly, I think largely b/c George wouldn't just come out & acknowledge me & the work..being done..
..is a large part of the reason(s) it occurred..but that IS another story, I'm probably never telling..as it just sucks too much).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND..just some additional background/history..
NOTE: The Strombo Show (<-- this is the more recent FB page)
has been around for ~11 years now.
As I was in the process of moving from Edmonton to Vancouver in 2005-2006 & going back to university, I didn't actually discover the show until ~late 2006-early 2007, when it was still on a previous radio station.
I started blogging & managing the "fan" chat (in a few different forms & formats), after the show moved from that other radio station, to CBC Radio 2..on November 8, 2009 and you can check out the first post..
..& the first playlist from then, when the first The Strombo Show was now at it's home on CBC Radio 2!
..and then I finally created this blog for the playlists that weren't being documented ANYwhere else.
I actually have TONS of previous playlists as well, in raw text files, for previous shows, from before I started this blog & BEFORE the show moved to CBC Radio 2..
..that aren't even up here, the goal was to..
eventually..
..after I moved back to Calgary..to back-date & archive ALL those old playlists here as well..
Obviously due to my move, then health issues, & other stuff that came up, I never got back onto that archive project.
So, who knows if I EVER will now, or if those playlists & that aspect of history of The Strombo Show, will remain hidden on my hard-drive. ;)
So..on that note..and as it seems like there's no good place to end this post..as there is SO much info still missing..
and like MOST of the posts on this blog..it's ridiculously LONG
..but I'm pretty much done with writing about this stuff for the night..
And despite how much this recent situation has pissed off
(clearly both of us, in different ways)..
..I am still listening (& posting on social media), about how much I *LOVE* The Strombo Show..
I'm just REALLY irked at George specifically..at the moment (grantedly, & quite understandably, & rightly so..)
But..a simple apology can solve that..(hint, HINT..)
However, I'm dancing & listening, & writing..here..
while listening to The Strombo Show tonight, for the Halloween, or rather..
#Stromboween..
..It IS my FAVE holiday of the year..
So in the spirit [ pun INTENDED ;) ] of radio, music & celebration of this beautiful holiday:
The Celtic New Year, Samhain, All Soul's Eve, Day/Eve of All Hallows, Hallowmas, Allhallowtide, Commemoration of All Faithful Departed, Solemnity/Feast of All Saints, Feast of All Souls, Day for All Souls, Devil's Day/Night..
..and so on..whatever name you name it by....
This beautiful holiday is not a time to be angry.
..and while finishing up this post..I was listening to Georgie's mom (there MUST some kindness, & gratitude in his heart w/such a beautiful, funny lady in his life)..talking about him as a gentle, sensitive, kind, tender-hearted little boy..
....and listening to this utterly beyond gorgeous, lovely, beautiful version & request by George's Mom of:
The Sounds Of Silence by Disturbed [Official Music Video]
..forgiveness is possible.
Forgiveness is always possible.
So..maybe that gentle, sensitive, kind, tender-hearted little boy can show up here.
As well, who can be mad, or stay mad..for long with music THAT beautiful being played by a total badass favourite band of mine.
And..besides..staying mad is also not my way/style..
..altho..yes, an apology would certainly be good.
That is all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And to end off..

A couple of songs that came to mind, or I discovered..
(..while listening to CBC Radio 2 - pre-Strombo show - I usually have the radio on in my place on Sundays from ~5pm on..& usually after the show as well for some of NightStream..
--> Sunday's REALLY ARE KILLER on CBC Radio 2!),
..or I re-heard these songs, & felt it was a perfect summation of all of this CRAZY stuff.

La La Lie - Basia Bulat - (Live In Studio @ CBC Music)
Also.. (Recorded version w/Lyrics)

Day or night
Friendly or fire
Doesn't feel right to me
I can keep up
Even though I won't feel alright for weeks
Never mind, don't pretend we know the meaning
Don't look up
Try to keep not to notice I'm leaving

When I say that I don't need help
And I promise I will be fine
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself
Can you look me straight in the eye?
There's a story for every time
And you la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to yourself

Day and night
You need advice
Don't get caught up with me
Burden of proof
I'm not confused
I wasn't even here
Never mind, don't pretend we know the meaning
Don't look down
Try to not see that you're bleeding

You can say that you don't need help
Can you look me straight in the eye?
Can you la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to yourself

I can promise myself tonight
I rehearsed and I know my lines
I can lie, lie, lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie to myself
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to myself
Can you la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to yourself

No, I know that I don't need help
There's a story for every time
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself
Oh, la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to myself
Can you lie, lie, lie, la-la-la-lie
Keep lying to yourself?

La-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to yourself
Oh, I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself
I can I la-la-la-lie, la-la-la-lie, la-la-lie to myself

Timothy Bloom - The Beginning (Work It Out) (Audio)

Timothy Bloom Releases Woozy Throwback Single, ‘Work It Out’

Lyrical Excerpt
(I wrote these out from listening to the YouTube audio..so may not be correct):
"You know when you love somebody,
you gotta treat them kind.

Yah.

If you out there..you got that good one.
Never let her go.

Let me tell you why.

I took her love for granted.
(yah)
I chased all my heart, left me stranded (???)

What I'd do..to get it all back.
My love, my love.

(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)
(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)
(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)
(Work it out)
(whooo, ooohhhh..)

Yahhhhhaaah.

Last time we kissed.
Oh I treasure.
'cause I'm missing those lips..now forever.

Just to get that moment back, baby..
It's driving me crazy.

You got to work it out.

Lyrics~Crazy-Patsy Cline

No lyrics needed.
Just Crazy.

..and
finally..

Don't Go

Hannah Georgas - Don't Go (Official Video)
I know you, you worry all the time
and now it’s because you want me to be all right
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you

How I wish you didn’t take on everybody’s pain

Cause I know every night you’re saying prayers
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you

So don’t go
don’t go on me now
don’t go

don’t cry on me now

Oh, Oh, god what the hell would I do
If you take her, I swear I’m coming too
Cause I don’t what I’d do
don’t know what I’d do if I lost you

So don’t go
don’t go on me now
don’t go

don’t cry on me now

Hold me like a child

Run fingers thru my hair
Lying on the couch
Watching tv in the basement
Hold me like a child
Run fingers thru my hair
Lying on the couch

don’t go
don’t go on me now
don’t go

don’t cry on me now

so don’t go
don’t go on my now
don’t go

don’t cry on me now

so don’t go
don’t go on my now
don’t go

don’t cry on me now

Just a real, genuine HBD (& an apology) will suffice.
That is all.

~Yours..
..always & forever.. in musical awesome-ness,

June 20, 2010: The Strombo Show Playlist - Top Front People Part 2 (NOTE: No G12 Count Down again this week!)

The Strombo Show Playlist (no G12 Count Down this week):
June 20, 2010

[ UPDATE: June 20, 2010; 2:14am:

Managed to get most/*ALL* of the playlist from June 20th up.. I will flesh things out a bit later more w/additional links, commentary & pics, etc..

It was very distracting listening to the show again in PST & typing, as I wanted to just rock out!

New-ish Feature: Table of Contents

~ The (full) Strombo Show Playlist [ Should be "Complete", but not "Confirmed" (NO G12 this week) ]: June 20, 2010

~ Bob's Top Front-person Picks
~ Lana Gay's Top Front-person Picks (Lana from CBC Radio 3 - No Rich Terfry this week)
~ Into the Album Side: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Pretty Hate Machine

~ End of Post
~ Comments Section (leave a comment) ]

[ UPDATE: June 20, 2010; 7:31pm:
Working on getting some links & more details up, as well as finishing off last weeks playlist so Parts 1 & 2 are both complete!

But.. if you are at all curious.. I have a whole bunch of links & info below on Lana Gay. Our guest girl DJ!

AND.. while you're here visiting & reading the playlist, etc.. go VOTE in our polls here first (and then come back): Polls on Strombo Show Chat Blog.

Yes.. that means you.. it won't take more than a minute or two (if the flipping things are working correctly :).

Help be a part of the direction & future of The Strombo Show Chat/Fan Blog.. and please comment on that posting if I missed anything in the polls, if you have any questions, or if you have any suggestions for any other future polls.

Thanks muchly! ]

I was able to tag or note pretty much *ALL* of the tracks while listening to the show on Sunday, June 20th.

The show was a little bit different again this week, as it was
Part II of the Frontmen/women/people (since we have to include a few super awesome trans-gendered folk in there for sure!)

And also.. keep in mind.. there was NO G12 Count Down again this night! Word is it "may" return next week.. but it was a wee bit unclear. I'll see if I can get a sneak peek for us.. ;)

So, as I mentioned..the show on Sunday, June 20, 2010 was Part II (2) in look at the "Frontman in Rock and Roll"...

The Hour had a bit back when they were visiting Vancouver where they returned "The Newstand" (which I personally think is awesome) to the show, and George chatted with Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace about "Q magazine's recently released list of the Top 20 Frontman in Rock and Roll."

[ Sorted quoted from: Strombo.com and here's.. The Hour: "The Newstand" Video! ]

Q mag had: "Liam Gallagher was number one (travesty), Muse Matt Bellamy was 6 (better than Chuck D?, come on). This list caused much discussion at the Strombo Show. So we had this grand plan to do a definitive list, but instead found this impossible."

They decided to try and break the music & frontmen (and women/people/transgendered/etc) down by decades. I.e. ".. when we say Frontman we mean Front-Person."

And they split it into 2 different shows.. last week Sunday, June 13th, 2010 (they did the 60's & 70's mostly), and this Sunday, June 20th, they took it into the 80's (deeply), the 90's, and the 2000's/present. (Looks like G didn't do anything for "Father's Day")..

Instead of Rich Terfry stopping by.. we had.. < gasp /> a girl...
Lana Gay from CBC Radio 3 stopped by to pick some awesome songs..

Now Lana is out here on the west coast where I am.. I haven't met her (yet)... but feel free to say hi Lana.. your picks kicked ass!

[ I now have posted some links as well to Lana & how to reach her.. as on Sunday night/Monday morning... I just really wanted to get the playlist up & didn't have the time to hunt about.

Now there isn't much over at Wikipedia on Lana, but I scrounged around and found some cool stuff about her in case you are either a CBC Radio 3, music, west coast, or all of the above n00bie... You can find Ms. Lana over in Twitter-Land here: @LanaGay! I found some interesting new folk to follow from her fans & friends list!

Lana can be found on-air over at CBC Radio 3 and her profile info is here: CBC Radio 3 Member Page: Lana Gay. She has some great playlists up there as well... I really like CBC Radio 3 web layout and format.. hint, hint... CBC Radio 2?!

And there is a great article over at Shameless Magazine (for girls who get it): Lana Gay: CBC Radio 3 Host, On-Air and Awesome and over at Vancouver IS Awesome... has a nice little write-up as well... and a link to Lana Gay's CBC Radio 3 Playlist(s) ]

As for the rest of the updates... stay tuned...

I may still do a "Highlights & Excerpts section" later since both Bob & Lana.. and wow.. Darby Wheeler got all super chatty (lol.. Clayton Darrell Darby Wheeler.. hee hee! Not sure if that is 1 "L" or 2..) and George spent quite a bit of time talking about the various songs and their "front-person songs/bands" being chosen/played, etc.

[ Return to the Table of Contents. ]

All tracks played on the show are in: Blue and Bold!
So they are easy to view/find/read on the page with all the other notes. Hope that helps! Feedback welcome!

Any Errors and/or Omissions are totally my fault!
IF.. you have any corrections or info that I'm missing, please comment or ping me & I'll update the blog list!
Thanks.
Enjoy.

AND.. as always.. Feedback, comments, notes, etc are ALWAYS welcome!

*** And please note.. there are often updates posted over at
The Strombo Show Website but George, Darby and few other of his producers/writer types are off on a road-trip.. so.. so far.. they haven't posted any updates etc, while they have been on the road... since like last week!

They are now in LA.. massively insane amount of hours/KMs driven.. so they may update something, or not.. since they are on vacation after all. Hey George.. you guys could just give me the passwords & FTP access to your site(s) & maybe pay me.. and I could do it ;). Haha... ***

I "may" share some tidbits from George's road-trip later if I find time to put together another post this week.. but you can always check out his Twitter (see the sidebar here for a block w/his Twitter updates) & TweetPhotos, etc.. as I would just steal stuff (with credit of course) from there anyway.

[ I keep evolving this layout each week (but creating a template/regular format to stick with & make my life easier & to get the playlist up sooner is hard when George keeps changing the freaking show format on me!).. But I'm now hand-coding it (in either Notepad, or since I'm VERY visual & really like color-coding & didn't put Visual Studio back on my computer.. ;) I'm using FrontPage.. but a newer non-evil-ish version.. in the nerds in the crowd want to know.

Of course, as I mentioned above, this week is unique in that there isn't a G12, but w/Bob from CBC Radio 2 Morning.. and Lana Gay from CBC Radio 3 (this week) stopping by to pick some tracks.. so I listed those along with everything else here!

So if you have any suggestions/ideas, please let me know by commenting here, or somewhere on the blog. ]

The Strombo Show Playlist [ Mostly Complete - but Unconfirmed (NO G12 this week) ]: June 20, 2010

[ BTW. My comments are in [ "Italics" ]. In case it isn't obvious. ]

[ We've opened up with the following songs... lots more to comment on later! ]

U2 - Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses

The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?

Joy Division - She's Lost Control

The Police - Born In The 50s

The Cure - Lullaby
[ Might be the extended mix? ]

Siouxsie & The Banshees - Kiss Them For Me

Pretenders - Boots Of Chinese Plastic

R.E.M. - Finest Worksong

[ And those tracks should take us to Bob's picks of the night. ]

[ Return to the Table of Contents. ]

[ Bob Top Front-person Picks. ]

[ So not only will you see that they played a number of fantastic songs, but there was some really great stories from Bob & G.
I'll get into them even more in a later update, as I only have so much time right now... and can't remember them all. Just focusing on getting the playlist up!

But seriously.. you really just need to hear the show to truly appreciate it anyway! ]

[ SO.. REALLY hoping to see this show up on The Strombo Show Website some day soon! Boys?! I can't wait to re-listen, as I really want to hear the chats again!

And this is heading into my top 10 Strombo Shows.. I may have to go back and re-listen to the ones up there & also consider the missing ones.. and put together My Top 10 Strombo Shows Blog Posting?! Hmm... Or maybe an M-7.. or D12? Ok.. that's bad. But it's late.
I'll come up with something funnier later. ]

Bob's Top Front-person Picks - #1: The Who - Love Reign O'vr Me
Bob's Top Front-person Picks - #2: The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony

[ "I never don't want to hear this song." I can't agree more.. except with the grammar.. and you had to be there to know what we're talking about. ]

Bob's Top Front-person Picks - #3: Public Enemy - Bring The Noise

[ That's it for Bob's pick.. back to the regular scheduled chaos of Darbs/Wheels/Darby and the G-man (I know.. I know.. I shouldn't. But they make me laugh SO freaking hard... I HAVE to make fun of them ;) ]

[ Return to the Table of Contents. ]

Metallica - Master of Puppets

[ Must admit.. this next section of songs, including the above, had me coming out of my skin... the Metallica one was played recently on the show already.. but fasten your seatbelt.. as the Power Hour starts here! ]

Iron Maiden - Aces High

[ BTW... this was a request for Scott (and someone I forgot now from some metal show.. or something.. sorry that's so vague.. I didn't write it down). I was just so distracted by the awesome-ness of this show! If anyone recalls.. let me know. Thanks muchly kids. ]

White Zombie - Thunderkiss 65

[ This particular White Zombie song was also played recently on the show. ]

Guns N 'Roses - Nighttrain (Appetite For Destruction)

Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box

Faith No More - Epic

Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike

Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song

The Smashing Pumpkins - Drown ({rotten Apples})

Pixies - Wave of Mutilation

[ Life *IS* always better when the Pixies are played on The Strombo Show. I think I'm showing both my age & my biases here.. ]

Beastie Boys - Gratitude

Nofx - Linoleum

Hole - Rock Star

Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians - What I Am (Acoustic version)

[ What an oddly strange, but quite workable transition here.. I've always loved Edie Brickell, but I've never heard this version of this song. ]

Blur - ParkLife (Starring Phil Daniels)

[ What I love the most about this song .. is that they keep their accents while singing. I remember (years ago!) at Expo 86 (since it comes up later in conversation.. lol) seeing some Australian band play there and loving their Aussie accents, but being amazed that they lost them while singing... (what can I say.. I was like 13.. give me a break!) ]

Radiohead - Paranoid Android

[ And what is so funny about this song.. is I went to go make a late dinner.. not far.. just to the kitchen.. but I came back AND thought I had missed a song while prepping my food.. but.. oh.. no! Nevermind... It's *STILL* Radiohead. ]

~ So... NO Rich Terfry this week. Damn.

[ Return to the Table of Contents. ]

[ BUT.. guess what kids.. we have a special treat this week..
A GIRL! Yes.. a real live girl/woman comes on the Strombo Show
..
so much for the boys club.. or maybe I've been making fun of them too much & they decided to go hunt down some female DJ/musical talent. To that end.. We have the lovely Lana Gay (from CBC Radio 3) stopping by tonight pick a few frontpeople type songs.

Her criteria was a bit different.. I hope I get this straight:
1. They had to be alive still (no dead people or seniors for some reason.. I forget why..)
2. They had to be someone she had seen play live
3. Oh wait.. #2 was #3, so.. #2 had something to do with the seniors.. well.. you get the picture.
Someone correct me if they remember what her "rules" were exactly. Thanks! ]

[ Lana Gay's Top Frontperson Picks. ]

Lana Gay's (from CBC Radio 3) Picks #1: Fucked Up - Son The Father

[ We don't bleep or edit here... cover your kids eyes if they are reading this blog with you.. ]

Lana Gay's (from CBC Radio 3) Picks #2: The White Stripes - Little Acorns

[ I'm with ya Lana.. I *heart* the opening to this song. It gives me hope too... and just the thoughts that go along with the song title.. "little acorns"... awww... ]

Lana Gay's (from CBC Radio 3) Picks #3: Gossip - Yr Mangled Heart

[ Also very much agree with this front-women pick. We need more women that just kick ass. Not b/c they look hot or can wear a tiny tight skirt/outfit/chain mail bikini/whatever on stage!

I do have to say.. I have listened to Lana on Radio 3 the odd time, but not a ton, as I can't always stream online at the time of day.. if I'm out and about, or in a meeting, and sometimes I just plain forgot to put Radio 3 on then since if I'm working.. I am easily distracted by good music!!

But I do have to mention here.. George's voice (& his response) when Lana says "50 is senior".. OMG.. SO funny!!! SO FUNNY.
And I'm now super curious how old Lana is then.. as I took her for our "generation".. meaning around the same age-ish as.. me (G, Darby, Bob, Rich, etc..) or at least in the ballpark with us.. ]

Lana Gay's (from CBC Radio 3) Picks #4: The King Khan & BBQ Show - Invisible Girl

[ Well. The vote in the chat was "We like Lana". And no Smallville reference is required here.. but you can add one in your head if it helps. I certainly enjoyed her picks & banter.. but she's a west coast girl.. out here with me in Vancouver.. WHAT is not to like I say!?!

She can come back to visit Le Strombo Show anytime.. and keep these boys in line! And I promise to stop over at Radio 3 in the afternoon to listen to your show more regularly Lana.. or at least toss a promotion nugget out here on the blog and on Twitter once I'm less sleep deprived and can update this here posting with links, etc. Tues/Wed for sure. ]

[ Return to the Table of Contents. ]

[ Back to our favorite boyz.. George and Darby to take us off into the night.. with a few more kickin' songs.. and then a sweet album side.. If you like the heavier/harder side of life.. I mean music! Well.. aren't they the same thing. Think of it as music to have sex too.. oh wait.. nevermind.. TMI. ]

Tool - Eulogy

Skinny Puppy - Dig It

[ There are a couple versions/edits are possible of this song!? Not entirely sure which one they played.. maybe the "Short Edit" off "The Singles Collect" album or the "Twelve Inch Anthology".. (produced by Nettwork Productions Ltd - yep.. I believe that is Sarah Mac's label). I'm going with the latter on a whim here.. ]

Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod

[ I remember the last time George played this Ministry song on the radio.. it was last summer, just after Martin Streek passed away.

I'm sure G was thinking of him while playing it/taping the show..
I know it's the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard it come over the airwaves.. R.I.P. Martin.

If you are not familiar with Martin.. here is some info Wikipedia: Martin Streek and we are still thinking of you as the DJ the big radio show in the sky! ]

Into the Album Side: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Pretty Hate Machine

[ Side 1. (I believe was played..) ]

Album Side # 1: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Head Like A Hole
Album Side # 2: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Terrible Lie
Album Side # 3: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Down In It
Album Side # 4: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Sanctified
Album Side # 5: Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - Something I Can Never Have

[ Sigh... I ♥ NIN.. and I think.. it may be be a tie between "Sanctified" and "Something I Can Never Have" for my favorite song(s) by them. I know it wasn't for me.. but thanks anyway guys. ]

[ The end.. of the "Album Side" & the end of the show!

But.. I did hear one more song.. playing the show out I believe... and G & Darby had a bit of chatting at the end here.. which was kinda funny.. but you needed last week's show (and maybe some other things) to form a point of reference to what they were talking about. Let's just say that they were being geeky.. nerdy (which incidentally is also kinda hot.. ) music boys & just leave it at that ;) ]

Nine Inch Nails (NIN) - La Mer (Left)

[ This last track wasn't on the album side, but from "The Fragile" album I'm pretty sure. But don't quote me until I google it or something first. ]

[ NO "Big Lie-Down" this week! ]

[ NOTE: That's the best I've got ATM. Please comment if you have anything I missed! TIA. ]

June 13, 2010: The Strombo Show Playlist - Top Front People Part 1 (NOTE: No G12 Count Down this week!)

The Strombo Show Playlist (no G12 Count Down this week):
June 13, 2010

[ UPDATE: June 16, 2010; 1:33am:

I've put up the tracks I had a chance to get in here & edit, etc.. not much, but it's a start...

I forgot I'm up early to watch the Greece game on Thursday AM (this morning!), so re-scheduling things around that.. It's been a busy week & little sleep :(

New Feature (last week): Table of Contents

The Strombo Show Playlist [ Not Complete (NO G12 this week) ]:
June 13, 2010

Bob's Top Frontperson Picks
Into the Album Side: Queen - Queen (1973)

End of Post
Comments Section (leave a comment) ]

Just a quick "place-holder post (with some deets) while I working on getting the full playlist up!

I was able to tag or note *MOST* of the tracks while listening to the show on Sunday, June 13th.

The show was a little bit different this week. (There was NO G12 Count Down), but pretty much the full playlist will be up in the next day or so!

What the show was this time was a look at the "Frontman in Rock and Roll"...

And to quote some more..
Q mag had: "Liam Gallagher was number one (travesty), Muse Matt Bellamy was 6 (better than Chuck D?, come on). This list caused much discussion at the Strombo Show. So we had this grand plan to do a definitive list, but instead found this impossible. So tonight's show is part one of two shows. Call it a conversation about frontman from two music fans, George and Darby, and Radio 2's Rich Terfry and Bob Mackowycz."

They decided to try and break the music & frontmen (and women) down by decades. I.e. ".. when we say Frontman we mean FrontPerson." And into 2 different shows.. this past Sunday, June 13th and next Sunday, June 20th (I guess G isn't doing anything for "Father's Day").

So.. I decided to put this quick note up about it (as people have been visiting and asking about it) & I'm working on getting the full playlist up by tomorrow, or actually Thursday, (I forgot I'm up early to watch the Greece game on Thurs AM, so re-scheduling things around that) sometime. (I have some of it down now, but need to edit the template I was creating for the regular show format to get rid of G12 stuff, etc.)

I may still do a "Highlights & Excerpts section" since both Rich & Bob are on the show w/their "frontperson picks" and Darby Wheeler (lol.. Wheels.. hee hee!) and George spent quite a bit of time chatting about the various songs being chosen/played and why.

*** And please note.. there are often updates posted over at The Strombo Show Website but George, Darby and few other of his producers/writer types are off on a road-trip.. so not sure if there will be much in the way updates, etc while they are on the road! ***

[ I keep evolving this layout each week (but working on a template/regular format to stick with & make my life easier & to get the playlist up sooner!).. and now coding it in either Notepad, or since I'm VERY visual & really like color-coding ;) & didn't put Visual Studo back on my computer.. I'm using FrontPage.. but a newer non-evil-ish version..

Of course, as I mentioned above, this week is unique in that there isn't a G12, but both Bob & Rich did stop by to pick some tracks.. so I'll have those listed along with everything else when it gets up here!

So if you have any suggestions/ideas, please let me know by commenting here, or somewhere on the blog. ]

Gord Downie.. (or was that Big Sugar here?) [ I kinda missed it.. ]

Roughtrade - High School Confidential

[ Bunch of other songs here.. including:
(But I did miss a bunch as I had to step away from the computer/radio for a ~20-30mins.. my handy chat room crowd that was on later did try & keep track for me as best they could.. kudos pending to those folks.. once I look at who was there again ;)]
